Library

There is a library in the Atkin-Wolfe Room (on the stage at the end of the hall, turn left) with a wealth of books for you to browse through or borrow.

What's in the library

You will find a bookcase full of histories, biographies and autobiographies, and another chock-a-block with fiction from Asch to Zangwill. You can find cheesecake and matzo pudding recipes, books of cartoons and Jewish jokes, a huge Israel section, books on archaeology, Yiddish poetry and anthologies, Jewish family life ... and much more.

There are around nine hundred books for study or enjoyment (or both). Come and see for yourself.

How to use the library

The library is open whenever the room is free. If you are early for a service, or have time to spare afterwards, or are waiting to collect your children - why not pop in and see what's on offer.

The cataloguing system is explained on a chart on the wall, and there are individual catalogues in a folder on the window sill to help you find books by Title, Author, or Catalogue Number.

The borrowing system is self-service. Every synagogue member has a Reader’s Ticket (these are in two trays on the windowsill, filed alphabetically under surnames – trays A-L and M-Z). Just take the book label from the inside cover of the book you are borrowing and slip it into the pocket of your own Reader’s Ticket
